The wonderful woman who started the Operation: Cooking for Soldier On (OCFSO) (http://www.operationcookingforsoldieron.com/) fundraiser threw a comment out about all the regional reps doing the Army Run (http://www.armyrun.ca/en/default.aspx) in September. I have been thinking about it since her comment, and finally committed last night "out loud" to her and a few others. To the 5K one, not the 1/2 marathon!
I am totally not a runner, but I did download the Couch to 5K program, and completed my first work out this morning (5 min warm up, intervals of 1 min of running and 1.5 min of walking for 20 mins, then 5 min of cool down). I worked up a heck of a sweat, felt pretty good after. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Through the magic of Wii Fit, I have discovered that I have also lost some weight. Not much, and I am still a ways away from where I would like to be. Maybe now that I don't need a deployment ticker on the bottom here, I will add a weight loss one :o) For the record, I would like to be about 150 lbs, and am currently sitting about 195. The weight is a measure; I would like to be healthy, and fit better into my clothes (or even better, into new, smaller clothes!). I really need to work on my cardio fitness.
SO, in addition to the other randomness you see here, you will also, hopefully, be getting fitness and weight loss updates.
Crow reminds us to learn to trust our intuition and personal integrity, to create our own standards, whether or not they match those of the world around us...It is said that in the courtship process the male crow's voice takes on a singing quality. This tells us what the basis of sacred law is. There is one unfailing principle by which we can test our principles, that of unconditional love.

Red Friday ~ Operation Cooking For Soldier On
From the website: http://www.operationcookingforsoldieron.com/
I have started doing a fundraiser for Soldier On. It is a cookbook that I have compiled with 250 recipes from Military members and families all across Canada. It is currently in the process of being printed by Rasmussen Company based out of Winnipeg and I have reps all across Canada that are taking preorders for the cookbook.
Each cookbook sells for a minimum $12 donation and the profit will be sent to the Soldier On Fund. The picture above is the cover on the cookbook and has many different sections. My favorite one is the Care Packages section, which includes recipes that will keep to send to the troops overseas.
Soldier On is a non-profit organization that allows ill and injured military personnel to have the resources available to them to continue leading an active and healthy lifestyle. It supports these personnel in being able to achieve their independence. With the money raised, it allows them to purchase prosthetics, wheelchairs and anything else the injured may need to develop new skills and achieve their goals.
My husband and I met Jody Mitic at the Army Run in Ottawa in 2009. Jody ran the half marathon with prosthetics, it was truly inspiring and that is how I came up with the idea of a cookbook as a fundraiser. This is how I feel as a Military spouse I can help raise awareness for this amazing program!
To date there have been a total of 1500 books that have been ordered with proceeds of over $9000. As well, Soldier On has approached me to ask if this could be one of their third party fundraisers. I believe that with the help of my reps and the support of Soldier On, there will be more success in the future.
Thank you to all the reps across Canada who put in very dedicated hours in making this such a huge success. As well, thank you to all those who have purchased a cookbook and supported our injured soldiers!
